Kuwait and Saudi Arabia played to a 1-1 draw Friday in the opening match of the second Gulf Football Legends Cup, held in Doha. The tournament, organized by the Gulf Football Association in collaboration with Qatar’s local organizing committee, runs through November 5.
The match took place at Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium, where Saudi Arabia took an early lead with Mohammed Amin scoring in the 15th minute. Kuwait leveled the score in the 74th minute when Ali Al-Maqseed converted a penalty kick. The result placed Kuwait in Group A alongside defending champions Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Oman.
Simultaneously, at Al-Ahli Stadium, Qatar defeated Bahrain 2-0, with both goals scored by Meshaal Abdullah. The United Arab Emirates also secured a 2-0 win over Yemen, thanks to two goals from Faisal Khalil. Meanwhile, Iraq recorded a commanding 5-0 victory against Oman, with goals from Hamadi Ahmed, Saleh Sudair, and Haider Sabah among the scorers.
The tournament features eight teams divided into two groups. Group A includes Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, while Group B consists of hosts Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, and Yemen. Matches consist of two halves of 20 minutes each, with unlimited substitutions permitted. In the event that knockout-stage matches end in a draw after regulation time, the winner is determined by a penalty shootout.
A total of 15 matches are scheduled to be played across three venues: Hamad Al-Kabeer Stadium, Hamad bin Khalifa Stadium, and Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium. The tournament aims to showcase retired football legends from Gulf countries, providing competitive fixtures in a condensed format.
