Kuwait’s national volleyball team secured fourth place at the second West Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship after a 3-1 defeat to Iraq in the bronze medal match held in Muscat, Oman. The match saw Iraq rebound from losing the opening set 21-25 to claim victory with set scores of 25-19, 25-23, and 25-18, thereby clinching third place in the regional competition.

The championship, hosted at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex from July 14 to 21, features seven teams divided into two groups. Kuwait competed in Group A alongside Syria and Qatar, while Group B comprised the hosts Oman, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Lebanon. The tournament format involved a single round-robin phase within each group, with the top two teams advancing to the semifinals.

Kuwait began the tournament strongly, defeating Syria in their opening group match before falling to Qatar, which resulted in a second-place finish in Group A. Advancing to the semifinals, Kuwait faced Oman but lost in straight sets, allowing the hosts to move on to the final. Oman will meet defending champions Qatar later on July 21 to contest the championship title.

In the placement matches, Saudi Arabia secured fifth place by overcoming Syria, who ended the tournament in sixth position. Lebanon finished seventh, completing the standings of the competition.

This second edition of the West Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship brought together regional teams for eight days of competition, aiming to foster volleyball development and regional sporting ties within West Asia.
