Kuwait has reiterated its dedication to enhancing judicial and legal cooperation within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) through increased collaboration and digital innovation. Awatif Al-Sanad, Undersecretary of Kuwait’s Ministry of Justice, made these remarks following her participation in a recent meeting of GCC justice ministry undersecretaries held at the GCC General Secretariat in Riyadh.
The meeting focused on a range of common judicial and legal issues affecting member states, along with Gulf-wide initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation and integration among justice ministries. Al-Sanad described the assembly as part of broader efforts to advance judicial integration within the GCC and support joint programs aligned with the strategic objectives of the member countries.
Highlighting Kuwait’s priorities, Al-Sanad emphasized the role of digital transformation in modernizing judicial systems. She pointed to the development of electronic platforms designed to facilitate the exchange of judicial notices and notifications between GCC states. These tools are expected to streamline legal procedures, improve cooperation among judicial authorities, and enhance the overall transparency and efficiency of the region’s justice systems.
The discussions also included consideration of draft unified GCC regulations to combat cybercrime. Al-Sanad noted the importance of reviewing these rules carefully, taking into account the various legal frameworks and national laws of the member states. The goal, she said, is to address cybercrime effectively while maintaining robust judicial and legal cooperation across the GCC.
Furthermore, Al-Sanad highlighted the critical role of specialized committees and judicial training institutions within the GCC. She described specialized legal training as essential to judicial development, enabling professionals to keep pace with evolving legal standards and rapid technological changes.
In concluding, the Kuwaiti official reaffirmed the country’s commitment to supporting joint Gulf initiatives aimed at fostering judicial cooperation, promoting legal modernization, and building more integrated and efficient justice systems throughout the region.
