Kuwait has been recognized with the 2026 Excellence Award for Technical Members of Legislative Departments among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, an honor received by Counselor Hanan Al-Eidan, Undersecretary of Kuwait’s Fatwa and Legislation Department. The award was presented during the 31st meeting of the Permanent Committee of Heads of Legislative Departments in GCC countries, held in Manama, Bahrain.
The event took place on Thursday under the chairmanship of Bahrain, which holds the committee’s presidency this year. Kuwait’s delegation to the meeting was led by Counselor Jawhar Al-Maqroun, Chief of the Legislative Sector and Department Undersecretary, accompanied by several legislative sector officials.
Qutaiba Al-Dabbous, Kuwait’s State Attorney and a member of the delegation, described the accolade as the first of its kind issued by the GCC General Secretariat specifically targeting technical staff within legislative departments across member states. He emphasized that the award recognizes the valuable contributions made by legal and legislative professionals in the Gulf region and serves as motivation to further enhance the quality and effectiveness of legislative work.
Al-Dabbous noted that this acknowledgment reflects the growing priority placed on advancing Gulf legal expertise and encourages greater collaboration and exchange of knowledge among the legislative bodies of GCC countries. During the meeting, participants addressed various agenda items focused on boosting cooperation, coordination, and sharing best practices to improve legislative frameworks in the region.
The recognition of Kuwait’s Fatwa and Legislation Department highlights ongoing efforts within the GCC to strengthen legislative institutions and foster a unified approach to legal development and governance across member states.
