KUWAIT — Kuwait continues to bolster its institutional coordination efforts to advance human rights implementation, officials said following a recent meeting of the National Standing Committee for Preparing Reports and Following Up on Recommendations Related to Human Rights.
The committee, chaired by Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Duaij Al-Sabah, Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights and Head of the National Standing Committee, convened on Tuesday to discuss progress and future plans. The session included representatives from scientific and academic institutions such as the Kuwait Institute for Judicial and Legal Studies, the Saud Nasser Al-Sabah Diplomatic Institute, defense and interior ministries’ colleges, Kuwait University, and the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training.
The meeting came as Kuwait marks its third year as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher emphasized the need for sustained coordination among national stakeholders to translate Kuwait’s voluntary international human rights commitments into effective actions. She highlighted the importance of regular consultation, particularly with academic and training institutions, to align national efforts with global human rights standards.
Officials reviewed progress in fulfilling Kuwait’s international obligations and discussed strategies to enhance the protection of human rights and human dignity in accordance with Kuwait Vision 2035. Discussions also focused on training and capacity-building initiatives aimed at updating curricula in specialized academies to reflect current international developments and practices.
The National Standing Committee operates under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and includes representatives from various government entities. It serves as a central body for preparing reports and following up on recommendations related to human rights, reinforcing Kuwait’s active engagement with both treaty-based and non-treaty human rights mechanisms.
Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher underscored that these steps highlight Kuwait’s continued commitment to advancing the human rights system domestically and internationally through institutional cooperation and constructive dialogue.
