Kuwait’s Burgan handball team suffered a substantial defeat against Germany’s Fox Berlin during their opening match at the 19th World Handball Club Championship. The game took place on September 27 at the New Capital Hall in Egypt, the host country for the tournament scheduled to run through October 1.

Fox Berlin established an early advantage by halftime, leading 20–11. They sustained their momentum throughout the second half, ultimately securing a 38–18 victory over Burgan. The German team’s strong offensive and defensive display limited Burgan’s scoring opportunities, contributing to the wide margin.

The championship features ten teams from six continents, comprising a mix of defending champions, the host nation’s clubs, and wild-card selections. Participating clubs include Barcelona from Spain, Fuchse Berlin from Germany, Veszprem from Hungary, Al Ahly and Zamalek from Egypt, Montada from Morocco, EC Peniros from Brazil, Los Angeles from the United States, Sydney University from Australia, and Burgan from Kuwait.

This annual competition draws top club sides from across the globe, offering a platform for international club handball competition and fostering sportsmanship among diverse teams. As the tournament progresses, teams will compete in a series of matches to determine the world’s leading handball club team.
