Kuwait has initiated the construction of three new missile-attack vessels as part of the Durra project, a naval enhancement program developed in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates’ EDGE Group. The commencement ceremony took place in Singapore and was attended by Kuwait’s Naval Force Commander, Major General Saif Al-Hamlan, alongside Kuwait’s Ambassador to Singapore, Sheikh Jaber Duaij Khalifa Al-Sabah.
The Durra project is designed to bolster the operational capabilities of the Kuwaiti Naval Force by upgrading its defense infrastructure and improving combat readiness. This initiative also aims to strengthen maritime security and safeguard Kuwait’s key strategic interests in regional waters.
During his visit to Singapore, Maj Gen Al-Hamlan held discussions with Singaporean Navy Commander Rear Admiral Sean Wat. The talks centered on deepening military cooperation and joint coordination between the Kuwaiti and Singaporean navies. Both sides explored opportunities for enhanced naval collaboration and the exchange of technical expertise, reflecting shared interests in maritime security and defense.
The partnership between Kuwait and the UAE’s EDGE Group underscores a continued effort by Gulf states to modernize their naval forces amidst evolving regional security dynamics. The addition of these missile-attack vessels is expected to significantly augment Kuwait's capacity to respond to potential maritime threats.
