Kuwait’s national Under-17 soccer team was defeated by Egypt 3-0 in a Gulf Cup Under-17 tournament match held Tuesday in Doha. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia and Yemen played to a 1-1 draw in a separate group-stage game.
The match between Kuwait and Egypt took place at Saud bin Abdulrahman Stadium. Egypt established an early advantage with Mohamed Attia scoring twice, once near the end of the first half in the 40th minute and again shortly after halftime at the 47th minute. Amir Abdulmajeed sealed the victory with a third goal for Egypt in the 74th minute. Earlier in the tournament, Egypt had delivered a decisive 5-0 win over Saudi Arabia in its opening game.
The second fixture, hosted at Hamad bin Khalifa Stadium, saw Yemen take the lead through Mohammed Aziz in the 31st minute. Saudi Arabia managed to level the score through a stoppage-time goal by Mashari Al-Shahrani, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
This edition of the Gulf Cup Under-17, now in its second consecutive year of being hosted in Doha, features a record ten teams competing for the title. Joining the eight traditional Gulf teams—Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, and Yemen—are guest sides Egypt and China.
The competition is divided into two groups. Kuwait, competing in Group B, faces off against Iraq, Yemen, Egypt, and defending champion Saudi Arabia. Group A includes hosts Qatar along with the UAE, Bahrain, Oman, and China. The expanded field marks the largest in the tournament's history, reflecting growing interest in the Under-17 regional competition.
