Kuwait is seeking to enhance its pediatric healthcare services through a strategic partnership with Boston Children’s Hospital Alliance and Global Services. On September 1, Sheikh Dr. Salman Khalifa Al-Sabah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, held talks with Dr. Ziad Abdulhak, Executive Director of International Business Development at the Boston-based institution, to discuss collaboration aimed at developing specialized care for children in Kuwait.
The discussions focused on leveraging international expertise in managing and operating children’s hospitals, with particular attention to clinical governance, patient care pathways, quality standards, and patient safety. Both parties emphasized the importance of adopting best practices to raise the level of pediatric services in the country.
A key component of the cooperation involves specialized training for Kuwaiti medical professionals to improve their competence in handling complex cases and performing advanced medical and surgical procedures within Kuwait. This initiative seeks to reduce the need for patients to travel abroad for critical treatment and to build sustainable local expertise.
The talks also addressed clinical and advisory cooperation as well as knowledge exchange programs designed to strengthen the healthcare workforce. Additionally, there was a focus on healthcare leadership and hospital management training to support the development of efficient pediatric care institutions.
Another area of interest identified during the meeting was genetic medicine and advanced diagnostics. Plans include establishing a dedicated genetic testing laboratory and training national cadres in this specialized field, reflecting Kuwait’s commitment to expanding healthcare capabilities in emerging medical technologies.
These efforts align with the Ministry of Health’s broader objective to foster partnerships with leading global medical organizations, facilitate expertise transfer, and build national capacity. The collaboration with Boston Children’s Hospital Alliance forms part of Kuwait’s ongoing strategy to improve the quality and scope of specialized medical services available to children across the country.
