Kuwait’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Ambassador Hamad Al-Mashaan, reaffirmed the country’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause during the 23rd Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The session, held on August 29 at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah, focused on recent developments in the occupied Palestinian territories.

In a statement released by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Al-Mashaan underscored Kuwait’s enduring commitment to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the borders prior to June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem designated as its capital. He emphasized the necessity of fully implementing the comprehensive peace plan for the Gaza Strip, referencing United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803, adopted in 2025.

The session addressed concerns over ongoing settlement activity and attacks by extremist settlers in the occupied territories. Kuwait condemned these actions and opposed any attempts to alter the historical and legal status of Jerusalem. Ambassador Al-Mashaan called for unified Islamic efforts to safeguard the Palestinian cause and preserve the sanctity of the Holy City.

Alongside the session’s discussions, Ambassador Al-Mashaan held a bilateral meeting with Serigne Modou Njie, the Gambian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambian Affairs Abroad. According to the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry, their talks covered developments in the Palestinian territories and explored opportunities to enhance cooperation and strengthen ties between Kuwait and The Gambia across multiple sectors.

The 23rd Extraordinary Session brought together foreign ministers from OIC member states to deliberate on strategies aimed at supporting Palestinians amid ongoing tensions and challenges in the region. Kuwait’s participation highlighted its continued role in advocating for Palestinian rights and encouraging collective action within the Islamic world.
