Kuwait’s Cabinet expressed full solidarity with Qatar following a deadly explosion at a liquefied natural gas facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City. The tragic incident, which resulted in multiple casualties, was addressed during the Cabinet’s weekly meeting on June 24, chaired by Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah.
During the session, officials were briefed on recent diplomatic activities, including a meeting between His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and Mary Yamashita, the United Nations Secretary-General’s High Representative for the implementation of Security Council Resolution 2792 (2025). An Amiri directive was also announced, appointing the Crown Prince to lead Kuwait’s delegation at the 81st United Nations General Assembly session scheduled for September 22 to 28 in New York. The Crown Prince will represent His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at the event.
Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah updated the Cabinet on his discussions with Yamashita, focusing on ongoing efforts to resolve the cases of missing Kuwaiti and third-country nationals, as well as the recovery of Kuwaiti property, including national archives. The minister reaffirmed Kuwait’s support for the UN official’s mandate aimed at advancing these issues.
The Cabinet was also informed about regional diplomatic engagements. Sheikh Jarrah reviewed the outcomes of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) foreign ministers’ coordination meeting held on the sidelines of the resumed 165th ordinary session of the Arab League Council in Amman. Discussions centered on regional developments, de-escalation efforts, and initiatives to bolster security and stability in the region. Additionally, meetings of Arab foreign ministers in Amman addressed similar themes related to joint Arab action and regional cooperation.

Further diplomatic communications highlighted in the Cabinet meeting included a phone call between Sheikh Jarrah and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani. They discussed recent regional developments and the outcomes of the initial round of high-level talks held in Switzerland under a memorandum of understanding involving the United States, Iran, Qatar, and Pakistan. The Foreign Minister also briefed the Cabinet on a separate call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, expressing Kuwait’s hope that the memorandum would enhance regional stability, safeguard security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and help resolve outstanding issues through sustainable measures.
In his remarks, Sheikh Jarrah emphasized Kuwait’s commitment to upholding international law and principles of the United Nations Charter, including respect for sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, peaceful dispute resolution, and opposition to proxy involvement in conflicts.
The Cabinet was further updated on exchanges with foreign ministers of various friendly nations and a call from the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Barham Salih, focusing on strengthening cooperation with the UN refugee agency.
