Kuwait has reiterated the significance of enhancing economic cooperation and industrial integration among Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to address evolving global economic challenges and improve the competitiveness of national industries. The remarks were made on Sunday by Mishari Al-Munawer, Deputy Director General for Export Development at Kuwait’s Public Authority for Industry (PAI), during the ninth extraordinary meeting of GCC industry undersecretaries held in Manama, Bahrain.
Al-Munawer emphasized that strengthening joint Gulf economic action remains a strategic priority for the GCC member states. He highlighted the need for developing regulatory and legislative frameworks to support industrial integration and bolster the Gulf Common Market. As part of these efforts, he pointed to a joint Kuwaiti-Omani proposal focused on localization requirements tailored to the specific characteristics of different industrial sectors. The proposal aims to increase the added value of Gulf products and enhance their competitiveness both regionally and internationally.
In addition, Al-Munawer underscored the importance of implementing the executive plan related to lists of goods subject to collective protection within the GCC framework. He noted that effective enforcement of this plan would foster a fair competitive environment, protect national products against unfair trade practices, and contribute to industrial security. These measures are aligned with broader objectives to support sustainable economic development and strengthen the resilience of Gulf industries.
Bahrain’s Undersecretary of Industry and Commerce, Iman Al-Dosari, also commented on the meeting, stating that the topics discussed would help improve the competitiveness of Gulf industries and further economic integration among GCC member states.
The two-day meeting was hosted by Bahrain and included industry undersecretaries from all GCC countries, as well as representatives from the GCC General Secretariat and the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting. The gathering focused on advancing collaborative initiatives aimed at deepening industrial and economic ties within the Gulf region.
