A team of Kuwaiti medical professionals led a workshop at the 56th Annual Meeting of the International Continence Society (ICS), held from October 6 to 9 in Maastricht, Netherlands. The event drew approximately 2,000 doctors and experts worldwide to share the latest developments in continence care, diagnostics, and treatment.

The Kuwaiti workshop, titled “Avoiding Over Treatment in Functional Urology,” emphasized the importance of making clinical decisions grounded in thorough assessments and scientific evidence. The session highlighted strategies to prevent unnecessary diagnostic tests, procedures, and interventions, aiming to improve patient outcomes while reducing potential complications.

Dr. Tariq Al-Shaiji, consultant urologist and head of the Urology Unit at Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital, chaired the workshop. He was joined by several other consultant specialists who engaged participants through interactive discussions. The team reviewed various clinical cases, focusing on how to differentiate situations that require medical intervention from those better managed with conservative approaches. The workshop also underscored the significant role of patient involvement in making informed treatment decisions.

This participation reflects the advancing expertise of Kuwaiti medical professionals and their active contribution to international medical discourse in the field of functional urology.
