Kuwait’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Khaled Al-Yaseen, formally presented his credentials as Kuwait’s ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary and non-resident ambassador to East Timor during a ceremony held on Friday in Kuala Lumpur. The event marked a significant step in the diplomatic relations between Kuwait and East Timor.
During the meeting, Ambassador Al-Yaseen conveyed the greetings of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, to East Timor’s President José Ramos-Horta. He extended wishes for continued progress and prosperity for the people of Timor-Leste.
Al-Yaseen emphasized the longstanding and cordial ties between Kuwait and East Timor and expressed Kuwait’s intention to deepen cooperation across various sectors. He highlighted opportunities to enhance political, economic, commercial, and cultural collaboration, aiming to mutually benefit both nations and foster stronger bilateral relations.
President Ramos-Horta acknowledged that the relationship between Kuwait and East Timor has been consistently strong since 2003. He expressed optimism about increasing cooperation in diverse fields and praised Kuwait’s assistance provided to East Timor following its independence. The president also commended Kuwait’s commitment to developmental aid, humanitarian efforts, and relief initiatives on the global stage.
Additionally, Ramos-Horta reaffirmed East Timor’s solidarity with Kuwait amid regional security challenges. He condemned recent attacks attributed to Iran targeting Kuwait and other member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council. The Timorese president voiced support for measures taken by Kuwait to safeguard its sovereignty and national security.
The presentation of credentials and subsequent discussions underscore the intention of both countries to expand diplomatic engagement and build stronger partnerships in the years ahead.
