The Kuwait Handball Federation is preparing for supplementary elections scheduled for October 4 to fill vacancies in its leadership following recent resignations. The positions of president and assistant secretary-general became available after Eng. Fouad Al-Balushi and Abdullah Al-Thayab stepped down, respectively. Ahmed Al-Sharieh, formerly president of Al-Qurain Sports Club, is the sole candidate for the presidency. Meanwhile, the assistant secretary-general role will be contested by two candidates: Falah Menahi Al-Azmi, representing Al-Shabab, and Mohammed Al-Khamis of Kazma Club.
The election process began with the closing of the nomination period last Thursday. Ahead of the vote, candidates and member clubs of the federation’s General Assembly are expected to engage in consultation meetings. These elections take place at a critical time as the federation continues to manage domestic competitions and prepares its national handball teams for upcoming international engagements.
In a separate development highlighting Kuwait’s progress in sports, Abrar Al-Fahad secured a historic gold medal at the World Masters Weightlifting Championships held recently in Athens, Greece. Competing for Al-Nasr Sports Club and the Kuwait national team, Al-Fahad claimed first place in both the snatch and clean and jerk categories, ultimately topping the overall competition standings. This achievement marks her as the first Kuwaiti female weightlifter to win gold at the World Masters Championships.
Al-Fahad’s victory represents a significant milestone for Kuwaiti weightlifting and the broader presence of Kuwaiti women in international sports. The accomplishment underscores the advancement of the country’s athletes on the global stage and adds a notable chapter to Kuwait’s sporting achievements.
