Carson Kvapil secured his third NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series victory of the season and his career on Saturday night at Martinsville Speedway, driving to a narrow win in the National Debt Relief 250. The 23-year-old North Carolina native captured the pole position and led 121 of the 250 laps to hold off teammate Justin Allgaier by just 0.434 seconds.
Kvapil’s performance bookended the race as he took an early lead and reclaimed it in the closing stages to maintain his place in the championship hunt heading into the final race of the season. After the Martinsville event, the championship battle remains tight, with Allgaier now leading the points standings by 22 points over Jesse Love.
Love, who faced significant challenges during the race, finished 30th following brake failure and tire problems that hampered his chances of a strong finish. The setback reduced his championship prospects, with the driver acknowledging that a victory in the upcoming Homestead-Miami Speedway finale is essential for him to claim the title.
Allgaier, the defending race winner at Homestead, appears well positioned to contend for the championship with one race remaining. Hendrick Motorsports rookie Corey Day completed the Martinsville podium in third place.
Kvapil credited the speed of his Chevrolet and effective adjustments made by his crew chief for the victory. As the series moves to Homestead-Miami Speedway for the season finale, the championship remains undecided with multiple drivers still in contention.
