Kyle Sandilands is facing legal action from his builder over an unpaid bill reportedly totaling around $240,000 for renovation work on his $5 million mansion. The dispute involves Alter Build Co, which alleges that Sandilands has not paid for refurbishment of a bathroom, kitchen, and laundry area, according to documents filed in the Sydney District Court.
Sandilands, a Queensland-based radio personality turned podcaster, has contested the claim, saying the builders exceeded a budget of approximately $1 million that he had set for the project. He expressed skepticism about the charges, emphasizing that the costs had escalated significantly beyond what he considered reasonable. “You can’t be overcharging by several hundred grand,” he said, adding that the situation did not warrant continuous billing without appropriate justification.
The broadcaster has requested that Alter Build Co provide documentation verifying any approvals for the disputed work, signaling his willingness to have the matter resolved judicially. “If I’m wrong, then I’ll fork it out. But I don’t think I am,” he said, indicating readiness to accept a court ruling on liability. Despite the tension, Sandilands stated he holds no animosity towards the builder, acknowledging their professionalism while also warning that an adverse ruling could have serious consequences for the company.
Alter Build Co, managed by Andrew Kabourakis and William Teixeira, initiated the lawsuit by lodging a statement of claim on October 1. The company is seeking court orders to recover the outstanding payment for the work performed, along with associated legal fees. As of now, Sandilands has not submitted a formal defense, and the case is scheduled to return to court on October 23.
Efforts to reach Alter Build Co for comment have been unsuccessful, and the company has not publicly commented on the matter. The dispute highlights a common issue in residential renovation projects involving disagreements over costs and approvals, with the outcome now depending on the judicial process to determine accountability.
