Kyle Francis Kennedy, granddaughter of Robert F. and Ethel Kennedy, passed away on September 21 at her home in Westwood. She was 42 years old. The family announced her death through an online tribute posted by Burke Funeral Homes, describing her passing as peaceful. No cause of death was disclosed.

Kennedy had sustained a spinal cord injury in 2020, which resulted in long-term paralysis and various health complications, the family statement said, without providing further details about the injury.

Born in Washington, D.C., in 1984, Kennedy spent much of her life in Massachusetts, where she dedicated her career to early childhood education. She was an advocate for educational reform, particularly focusing on disadvantaged children and individuals with disabilities. Kennedy attended Milton Academy before earning a history degree from Georgetown University. She later obtained master’s degrees from Pace University and the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

After joining Teach for America, Kennedy taught in New York City public schools for two years. She subsequently worked with technology firms aimed at improving school curricula and supported educators as a coach for those working with young students. Her family noted she was known for her intellect, dry wit, and commitment to her children—Conor, Josephine, and Declan.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Kennedy enjoyed competitive sports, art, animals, and travel. She was an avid runner and completed the Boston Marathon in 2019 under harsh weather conditions, finishing 20 minutes ahead of her father’s marathon time. Known for her competitive spirit, she also enjoyed games such as Trivial Pursuit and card games.

Kennedy was the daughter of the late Michael Lemoyne Kennedy, who died in a skiing accident in 1997 at age 39. She is also survived by her two sons, Conor and Declan; her former husband, Liam; her mother, Victoria; and her siblings Michael and Rory. The family noted that she was predeceased by her infant daughter Josie, who was the twin sister of Conor and died shortly after birth.

She was one of 34 grandchildren of Robert F. and Ethel Kennedy. Services for Kennedy were held privately.

Her passing comes after several recent family tragedies, including the 2020 disappearance of Maeve Fahey Kennedy Townsend, 41, and her 8-year-old son Gideon in Chesapeake Bay. Townsend was the daughter of Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, the eldest of Robert F. Kennedy’s children. In 2019, another granddaughter, Saoirse Kennedy Hill, 22, died from a toxic mix of methadone, alcohol, and prescription drugs at the family compound in Hyannis Port.

Additionally, Tatiana Schlossberg, granddaughter of President John F. Kennedy, passed away in December 2022 at age 35 from acute myeloid leukemia.
