Kyle Larson positioned himself strongly to secure a third NASCAR Cup Series championship following his recent victory at Talladega Superspeedway. The win marked his first at the 2.66-mile Alabama track after 24 attempts, highlighting a critical breakthrough late in the season. Crew chief Cliff Daniels remarked on the unusual moment, noting that even his team needed directions to find victory lane, underlining how rare Larson’s success has been at the challenging superspeedway.

Larson currently leads the Chase standings by 73 points over runner-up Denny Hamlin as the series heads into its final two races. Both remaining events are at venues where Larson and his team, Hendrick Motorsports, have established strong records. The first of these is Martinsville Speedway, a 0.526-mile oval where Larson boasts eight consecutive top-10 finishes, including a victory in 2023. Hendrick Motorsports has historically excelled at Martinsville, holding 31 wins, the most of any team in Cup Series history.

A strong result at Martinsville on Sunday could allow Larson to clinch the championship before the season finale, a scenario unprecedented in Chase history. The final race of the season will take place at Homestead-Miami Speedway on November 8, a track where Larson also has a proven record. He has won twice on the 1.5-mile oval and is tied for second in career top-five finishes there, with six to his name.

With a combination of recent momentum, a sizable points advantage, and track records favoring both Larson and Hendrick Motorsports, the driver is well positioned to add to his two previous Cup Series titles in the closing days of the 2026 season.
