Kylie Minogue has credited Coldplay frontman Chris Martin with playing a key role in the creation of her new song "Light Up," sharing details of their collaboration ahead of the release of her Netflix docuseries "Kylie." Speaking at Spotify’s Listening Lounge in London, Minogue described how Martin contributed to the track by sending her a voice note with chords shortly after receiving some of her lyrical ideas.
Minogue explained that while she was working on her album "Tension," she spoke with Martin about some of the lines she had written. Within 30 minutes, Martin returned a voice note, providing musical accompaniment that helped bring the song to life. Reflecting on Martin’s involvement, she noted, “I can’t imagine Chris is ever very far away from a guitar or drums,” highlighting his spontaneous support during her creative process.
The docuseries "Kylie," which premiered recently on Netflix, offers fans a deeper look into her personal and professional life, including revelations about her battle with cancer. The program showcases the closing track of her "Tension" album, "Story," a 2023 release that Minogue says was inspired by her second cancer diagnosis in 2021. The song’s lyrics poignantly convey her private struggle: “I didn’t let the world know, I was fighting a big fight. Fighting a dark light. Raging hard on the inside.”
Minogue’s openness about her health challenges has resonated with audiences, adding new emotional dimensions to her earlier work. As she continues to promote her music and the docuseries, the singer’s resilience and artistry remain at the forefront of public attention.
