Fantastic Furniture has closed its last manufacturing facility in Australia, resulting in approximately 100 job losses as production shifts overseas. The company’s lounge manufacturing plant in Fairfield East, western Sydney, ceased operations on Friday, ending the brand’s local production.
The closure reflects a broader strategic move to adopt a global supply chain, with new manufacturing reportedly taking place in China and Vietnam. This relocation is attributed to rising domestic costs and challenging conditions in the retail sector.
A spokesperson for Fantastic Furniture, which operates over 80 stores across Australia, confirmed the decision and highlighted the company's intent to sustain its business viability. “Moving to a global supply model supports the long-term commercial sustainability of our business and gives us the flexibility to continue investing in new, fresh product ranges for Australian customers,” the representative said.
The Fairfield East factory had produced about 25 percent of the company’s lounge range and accounted for roughly six percent of its overall inventory. The spokesperson also acknowledged the long-term contributions of the manufacturing staff and emphasized ongoing support during the transition period.
The shift away from local manufacturing marks a significant change for Fantastic Furniture, which had maintained production facilities within Australia until this recent closure.
