The Embassy of Nepal in Muscat hosted an event focused on labour awareness, trade, export, and investment promotion to mark the 2570th Buddha Jayanti and International Labour Day. The programme, held recently in Muscat, drew 78 participants, including members of the Nepali Social Club, expert groups, businesspersons, rescue team members, and other members of the Nepali community in Oman.
The event provided a platform for sharing information and fostering discussion on initiatives aimed at enhancing Nepal’s export potential and investment opportunities, as well as raising awareness about labour rights and responsibilities. It also highlighted the cultural and historical significance of Buddha Jayanti alongside the global observance of International Labour Day.
Ambassador Dornath Aryal reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to advancing Nepal’s economic interests through diplomatic efforts while ensuring the protection and welfare of Nepali workers in Oman. He also spoke on the enduring relevance of Lord Buddha’s teachings in promoting peace and harmony within the community.
A key presentation was delivered by Bishesh Kumar Sah, First Secretary at the Embassy, who outlined opportunities for trade, export, and investment. He emphasized the importance of active community participation in driving Nepal’s economic growth and encouraged initiatives that could help expand export markets and attract investment.
The Embassy also launched the handbook titled *Shramik ko Saathi (Labour’s Friend)* aimed at providing guidance to Nepali workers in Oman to promote safe and dignified employment. Labour Attaché Damodar Gnawali presented on labour awareness, detailing workers’ rights and responsibilities in accordance with International Labour Organization (ILO) guidelines, relevant local labour laws, and practical advice for Nepali workers living and working in Oman.
In addition to the in-person event, the Embassy conducted a Facebook Live session to address questions from Nepali workers in Oman, offering real-time information and support.
Overall, the gathering underscored the Embassy’s dual focus on promoting economic opportunities for Nepal while safeguarding the welfare of its nationals abroad through community engagement and awareness initiatives.
