Dundee United striker Lachlan Rose expressed confidence that his team can compete effectively in the Scottish Premiership this season, citing the recent success of Heart of Midlothian as a motivating example. The Australian forward, who joined from A-League club Newcastle Jets during the summer transfer window, highlighted Hearts’ title challenge last season as inspiration for other top-flight clubs to raise their ambitions.
Rose scored his first league goal for Dundee United in Friday night’s 1-1 draw against Rangers at Tannadice Park. Manager Jim Goodwin’s side earned a valuable point and came close to securing a win, with Jesse Randal missing a significant opportunity late in the match. Reflecting on the result, Rose emphasized the squad’s belief in their ability to challenge any opponent in the league, regardless of stature.
“We fear no one,” Rose said, noting the importance of focusing on their own game plan rather than being overly concerned with the opposition. “Everyone is equal on the pitch. Obviously you respect players at bigger clubs, but you can’t give them too much. We’re fighting for something as well. We want to win every game this season and we showed that on Friday.” He added that adopting the manager’s strategy and maintaining team character were key to their performance against Rangers.
Dundee United’s Premiership squad now includes four Australians and one New Zealander, with Rose describing the Antipodean presence as a positive influence on the group. “It’s a good thing to have,” he said. “I came here with an open mind and I wanted to embrace the Scottish culture. I think I’ve done that.” Rose also mentioned teammates Zac Sapsford and Jesse Randal, highlighting their contributions and camaraderie within the team. “We showed on Friday that we’re willing to work hard for each other. If someone is out of position, we’ll cover for them,” he explained.
Despite his goal being a significant personal milestone, Rose expressed disappointment that Dundee United could not secure all three points against Rangers. “I love winning so not getting the three points was a bit disappointing. Even if it’s against teams like Rangers, I don’t care, I just want to win games,” he stated. He described the goal as a fortunate but welcome moment and praised the team’s effort as a sign that they should not be underestimated this season.
