The Los Angeles Fire Department is mourning the loss of Firefighter Stan Reza, 35, who died in a traffic collision early on July 24 in Whittier involving a tractor-trailer. Reza, a three-year veteran of the department, was off duty at the time of the crash, according to a statement from the LAFD.

The collision occurred at approximately 2:15 a.m. on the northbound 605 Freeway near Beverly Boulevard. Authorities from the California Highway Patrol’s Santa Fe Springs office are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Reza was driving a pickup truck when it collided with the large commercial vehicle.

The Los Angeles County medical examiner reported that Reza died at the scene due to blunt traumatic injuries. No additional information about the cause of the crash or the condition of the other driver has been released.

Fire Chief Jaime Moore expressed condolences to Reza’s family and colleagues, highlighting the deep sense of loss felt within the fire department. Reza was a resident of Pomona and a graduate of Cal Poly Pomona. The department has indicated that memorial arrangements are forthcoming and will be communicated once finalized.
