Lando Norris secured pole position ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix at the new Madring circuit with a lap described by both the driver and McLaren team principal Andrea Stella as one of the best of his career. Norris, who trails championship leader Kimi Antonelli by 96 points, delivered a near-flawless qualifying performance despite a slight error at the final corner.

Norris reflected on the lap, calling it “just a perfect lap” in which he executed every corner to his satisfaction except the last, where a loss of grip nearly cost him pole. “It was a wobble at that last corner,” Norris said, “but luckily, it’s a short run to the finish line,” allowing him to maintain enough speed to edge out Antonelli.

Andrea Stella praised Norris’s effort, emphasizing the quality of the lap despite the minor mistake. “It was a masterpiece,” Stella said. “In the final corner he made a mistake worth three-tenths, so it was just an incredible lap. One of the best of his life until the last corner.”

Norris’s pole position positions him as a strong contender to challenge Antonelli, who has dominated the season and is closing in on his title. The Spanish Grand Prix promises to be a critical test, as overtaking at Madring is expected to be difficult due to the track layout.

Antonelli, driving for Mercedes, acknowledged the challenge of passing on the circuit and emphasized the importance of the race start. “When the gaps are so close, it’s really hard to create overtaking opportunities,” he said. “That’s why the start is going to be important.”

With Norris determined to prevent Antonelli from running away with the championship, and the Spaniard eager to extend his lead, the race is set to be a tightly contested battle under challenging conditions.
