Scunthorpe, who made just two changes from last season’s play-off semi-final squad, came close to taking the lead before the interval when Jordan Richards missed a close-range opportunity following a good pass from Dec Howe.

Yeovil, meanwhile, named nine new starters under manager Billy Rowley, and the adjustments initially paid off early in the second half. In the 48th minute, Ryan Jones delivered a free-kick from the right flank toward the back post, where Obeng arrived to calmly slot home his first goal for the club, seemingly securing a vital opening-day victory.

Scunthorpe’s response was slow to materialize but gained momentum after the introduction of new signings Jacob Butterfield, James Gale, and Brennan following the hour mark. Their impact was soon felt as Brennan produced a composed and skilful finish from the left side of the penalty area in the 90th minute, curling the ball into the top corner to salvage a point for the home side.

Scunthorpe manager Andy Butler described the contest as a "typical first-day-of-the-season game," emphasizing the value of the draw against a possession-oriented Yeovil side. He praised his team’s resilience during periods of pressure and singled out Brennan’s goal as a highlight, while also commending the group’s unity.

Yeovil’s Rowley acknowledged the point as acceptable at Scunthorpe but expressed some frustration at not securing the win, particularly given the number of players making their debuts, some from lower leagues. He reflected positively on his squad's composure in a challenging atmosphere, highlighting their adaptability and spirit.
