Lazio secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Juventus on Sunday in Turin, moving level on points with Inter Milan at the summit of Serie A. The win marked Lazio’s strongest start to a campaign in over two decades, amassing 19 points after seven matches—two points more than the 17 they collected during the 1999-2000 season under Sven Goran Eriksson.

Lazio remain second only on goal difference behind defending champions Inter Milan. The 1999-2000 Lazio team went unbeaten in their first nine games and ultimately clinched the Serie A title by a narrow margin over Juventus.

Lazio coach Gennaro Gattuso emphasized the importance of maintaining focus despite their unexpected early surge. “We may well be the surprise package of this league, but we mustn’t change our approach, we need to take each match as it comes and work hard,” he said.

The visitors took the lead in the 37th minute through defender Oliver Provstgaard, whose towering header found the net after out-jumping the home defense. In the second half, winger Gustav Isaksen extended Lazio’s advantage with a composed low finish inside the far post after cutting inside a retreating defender. The final goal came near the end of the match when substitute Fisayo Dele-Bashiru embarked on a solo run from his own half and calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper.

Juventus, whose supporters expressed their frustration by booing the team off the pitch, have won only one of their last five league games and currently sit eighth, eight points adrift of the leaders. Coach Luciano Spalletti expressed his disappointment with the team’s performance, citing a lack of pace and creativity. “We were clearly outplayed, we were slow, we lacked ideas,” Spalletti said. “It’s hard to understand.”

The result highlights Lazio’s strong start to the season and raises questions about Juventus’ early struggles, as both teams prepare for the upcoming fixtures in Italy’s top flight.
