AIESEC in SLIIT Kandy Uni hosted LEADSPIRE 2.0, a leadership development event aimed at empowering university students to explore their leadership potential and cultivate essential skills. The program took place on August 23, 2026, at the SLIIT Kandy Uni campus in Pallekele, bringing together participants for a comprehensive day of interactive learning, teamwork, and personal growth.

Designed to extend beyond a conventional one-day seminar, LEADSPIRE 2.0 focused on encouraging students to move beyond their comfort zones, challenge established perspectives, and recognize the importance of proactive leadership. The event attracted a diverse group of students, ranging from those new to leadership concepts to individuals seeking to deepen their understanding of the role leadership plays both inside and outside academic settings.

The program featured a series of dynamic sessions led by AIESEC members from SLIIT Kandy Uni and the University of Colombo. These sessions emphasized practical leadership skills, including effective communication, collaboration, personal accountability, and taking initiative. Rather than concentrating solely on theoretical knowledge, facilitators encouraged active reflection and application to real-life scenarios in university environments and future careers.

A central highlight of the event was the outbound training session guided by Mr. Chandima Aturusinghe. This experiential workshop provided participants with opportunities to engage in team challenges designed to simulate leadership in unfamiliar and dynamic situations. Through these activities, students practiced decision-making, problem-solving, and cooperative interaction, underscoring that leadership often emerges through response to challenges rather than formal authority.

The event also placed strong emphasis on networking and relationship-building, recognizing the value of meaningful connections in personal and professional development. Participants interacted through collaborative exercises, discussions, and shared experiences, leading to the exchange of diverse viewpoints and the forging of new friendships.

Behind the scenes, the success of LEADSPIRE 2.0 was supported by a dedicated organizing committee and the backing of the management boards of AIESEC in SLIIT Kandy Uni and the University of Colombo. Their coordinated efforts in planning, facilitating, and managing logistics were instrumental in creating an engaging and inclusive learning environment.

Reflecting the broader mission of AIESEC, LEADSPIRE 2.0 sought to nurture young individuals who are ready to assume responsibility and drive positive change within their communities. The event communicated that leadership is not exclusively about holding positions of power but about everyday actions that demonstrate courage, accountability, and collaboration.

As the event concluded, participants departed with enhanced knowledge, fresh perspectives, and an expanded network. The experience was intended to serve as a catalyst for ongoing leadership development, motivating students to apply the lessons learned through initiatives, inspiration, and active engagement in their academic and social spheres.

While LEADSPIRE 2.0 officially ended on August 23, its impact is envisaged to extend far beyond the event itself, marking the beginning of many participants’ leadership journeys.
