Lebanon’s health ministry reported that 13 people were killed in Israeli military strikes in the southern part of the country, including in a town where Israel had issued an evacuation order despite an ongoing ceasefire. The deadliest attack occurred in Habboush, where eight individuals lost their lives, among them a child and two women. The strikes in this area also wounded 21 others, prompting an update to an earlier casualty count.
Additional strikes were reported in the town of Zrariyeh, resulting in four fatalities, including two women, and four injuries. A separate strike in Ain Baal, located near the coastal city of Tyre, killed one person and injured seven more, according to the ministry.
In Habboush, the site of the evacuation warning, a photographer documented plumes of smoke rising shortly after the attacks. The state-run National News Agency of Lebanon (NNA) stated that Israeli warplanes carried out a series of intense strikes less than an hour following the evacuation notice issued by the Israeli military.
Beyond Habboush, the NNA also noted instances of Israeli strikes and artillery fire in other areas across southern Lebanon, including near Tyre. The Israeli military had called for evacuation orders in some locations in the region amid what it described as security concerns, despite a declared ceasefire between the conflicting parties.
The strikes and resulting casualties have raised tensions in the area, with Lebanese officials condemning the attacks while Israel maintains that its operations are targeted and precautionary. No immediate comment from Israeli authorities was available regarding the specific incidents reported on this date.
