LeBron James contributed 20 points and delivered the decisive go-ahead fadeaway in the final moments as the Philadelphia 76ers secured a 98-93 victory over the New York Knicks in an NBA Cup group game on Tuesday night. Tyrese Maxey led Philadelphia with 27 points in front of a packed home crowd, creating an electric atmosphere reminiscent of the playoffs.

With 1:32 remaining, Knicks guard Jalen Brunson nailed a three-pointer that put New York ahead 90-89, prompting a surge of energy from the visiting fans. However, James responded quickly, scoring the go-ahead basket with 1:10 left on the clock. VJ Edgecombe extended the lead with a three-pointer shortly after, providing an insurance margin for the 76ers.

James added a crucial tip-in in the closing seconds and came close to recording a triple-double, finishing the game with nine rebounds and eight assists. Philadelphia improved to 2-0 against the reigning NBA champion Knicks this season, having also defeated them on the opening night in New York, which marked James’ debut with the 76ers.

Brunson, who appeared to suffer a minor ankle injury late in the game, finished with 24 points for New York. Karl-Anthony Towns paced the Knicks with 22 points. Despite having started their regular starting five together just three times this season, the 76ers have gotten off to a strong 5-1 start overall.
