The Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center in Washington hosted a lecture titled “Oman: A Legacy of Dialogue and Tolerance,” underscoring the Sultanate of Oman’s dedication to fostering religious tolerance, intercultural understanding, and peaceful coexistence. The event took place recently under the patronage of Talal bin Sulaiman al Rahbi, Oman’s Ambassador to the United States.
Attendees included officials from the White House and Congress, representatives from various think tanks, members of the media, and diplomats. Counsellor Sabra bint Ahmed al Hooti, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Omani Embassy in Washington, highlighted the “Muscat Action Plan,” unveiled at the United Nations headquarters in New York in June 2026. She described the initiative as a reflection of Oman’s sustained efforts to encourage dialogue, promote mutual respect, and support peaceful coexistence among different religious and cultural communities.
Dr. Timothy Gianotti, an expert in Islamic studies, discussed the role of Islamic teachings in advancing diversity, fostering mutual respect, and enhancing understanding across religions and cultures. He emphasized the contributions of Islamic thought and spirituality to the development of interfaith understanding, noting that religious principles can serve as a foundation for building inclusive and peaceful societies.
The lecture forms part of the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center’s ongoing mission to promote cultural exchange and mutual understanding, while strengthening the relationship between Oman and the United States.
