Manchester United manager Michael Carrick described the team’s 1-1 draw against Leeds United on Sunday as a “fresh start,” despite extending their winless streak to six matches across all competitions. The match, held at Elland Road, saw Leeds forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalize after Bryan Mbeumo’s first-half goal.

The result follows a challenging week for Manchester United, who suffered a 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League five days earlier. That loss intensified scrutiny on the club's management, with defender Lisandro Martinez publicly criticizing the hierarchy for insufficient summer investment.

Carrick, who gave a starting place to Martinez in the game at Leeds before the defender was substituted at halftime due to a thigh injury, emphasized the importance of maintaining focus despite the absence of victory. “We’re not getting too carried away because we haven’t won the game,” Carrick said, stressing his belief that consistent effort would eventually yield positive results.

He added that the performance reflected a renewed determination within the squad. “It felt like a bit of a fresh start, if I’m honest, today in where we’re at and accepting it and doing something about it,” Carrick said. He highlighted the players’ commitment to each other and to the club, noting a palpable sense of purpose developing over recent days.

Manchester United face Como on Tuesday in a bid to secure their first win since the Champions League opener against Sabah last month. They will then return to Premier League action with a home match against Bournemouth. Currently 13th in the league standings, United have recorded their fewest wins at this point in a top-flight season since 1986-87.
