Leighton Town suffered a 3-0 defeat at home against Rushall Olympic in a match played at Bell Close, marking the first home game overseen by managerial duo Andy Leese and Jon Meakes. The result extended Leighton’s difficult run, while confirming Rushall Olympic’s status as strong contenders for the play-offs.
Rushall Olympic opened the scoring in the 17th minute after Aurio Neto Teixeira was fouled inside the box, awarding the visitors a penalty. Captain Liam McAlinden converted the spot-kick with calm precision from 12 yards to give Rushall an early lead. Ten minutes later, Josh Blunkell, Leighton’s goalkeeper, made a crucial save to deny a shot, which led to a corner. From the set piece, Todd Alcock delivered a well-placed ball into the box, enabling Kaimen Anderson to head in the second goal for the visitors.
Leighton Town earned a chance to reduce the deficit ten minutes before halftime when Osaze Okuonghae was penalised for pushing Tyler Winters inside the penalty area. James Dobson, a recent addition to the squad, took the penalty but was denied by Rushall’s goalkeeper Ollie Taylor, whose save struck the inside of the post and prevented Leighton from gaining any momentum.
Just before the break, Rushall Olympic extended their lead to 3-0. Tyler Roberts delivered an accurate cross to Luke Yates, who controlled the ball and finished past Blunkell, effectively sealing the victory for the visitors. Throughout the match, the home side struggled to find cohesion and were frequently outplayed by a more disciplined Rushall Olympic side.
Leighton Town will look to regroup following this disappointing performance, while Rushall Olympic strengthened their position among the league’s play-off hopefuls with a comprehensive away victory.
