A 59-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his neighbour at a residential block in Lengkok Bahru, Singapore. Ng Swee Seng appeared via video link at a district court on July 22, facing charges related to the death of 59-year-old Thiyagarajan Karunakaran.

The incident occurred on July 20 at Block 55 Lengkok Bahru, near Redhill Road. According to police statements, officers responded to emergency calls shortly before 5 p.m. that day. Upon arrival, they found Thiyagarajan lying motionless in a lift lobby on the 16th floor of the building. He was rushed to the National University Hospital, where he later died.

A site visit to the block on July 21 revealed bloodstains and a bloody footprint along the 16th-floor corridor, indicating the severity of the altercation. Neighbours reported that Ng and Thiyagarajan lived several units apart on the same floor. One resident, who has lived in the block for approximately four years, confirmed the proximity of the two men.

During the court appearance, Ng stated that his actions were a reaction to noise he heard, explaining, "If I hear sounds, I will scold people... I reacted because I heard (a) voice." The case has been adjourned to August 12 for further proceedings.

If found guilty of murder, Ng faces the mandatory death penalty under Singaporean law. Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
