Lewis Capaldi, the Scottish singer-songwriter, has publicly addressed an unusual situation involving court bookings at his local gym in Glasgow. The artist revealed that an unidentified individual, named Edward Tsang, has been repeatedly reserving badminton and pickleball courts at the David Lloyd club using Capaldi’s name as an opponent.
Capaldi, 29, from Whitburn, West Lothian, explained that the gym’s online booking system requires entering the name of an opponent to secure a court reservation. Tsang has allegedly exploited this feature by listing Capaldi as his playing partner, despite having no connection to the singer. This has resulted in Capaldi receiving numerous notifications about matches he is purportedly scheduled to attend.
In a message shared on his Instagram account, where he has some 7.8 million followers, Capaldi expressed frustration with the ongoing bookings. He posted screenshots showing six separate court reservations made within a single week under his name. The singer emphasized that he neither plays badminton nor pickleball, and has no acquaintance with Tsang.
Capaldi took a brief pause from preparing for an upcoming concert in Milan to publicly call on Tsang to stop using his name. He stated that while he initially chose to overlook the matter, the frequency and persistence of the bookings compelled him to speak out. “I don’t want to be a grass here if you’re trying to get on the court,” he said, “but I’ve had enough.”
As of now, there has been no public response from the individual named in the bookings or from the David Lloyd club regarding the incident.
