Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold was released by the team on Monday shortly after a Florida judge set his bail at $1 million in a criminal case accusing him of orchestrating the abduction and assault of three men. Arnold, 23, was taken into custody last week on multiple felony charges, including armed robbery and kidnapping, related to an incident that prosecutors say took place in Tampa earlier this year.

According to court documents, Arnold is alleged to have led a group that detained and pistol-whipped three individuals, including a man who worked as his driver. The three victims, all teenagers, were held at gunpoint in a Tampa apartment in February. Prosecutors contend Arnold accused them of stealing luxury goods and up to $100,000 in cash from him, although they say none of the men were involved in the theft. Arnold had reported a separate burglary of more than $250,000 worth of property from an Airbnb in Largo, Florida, three days prior to the alleged assault.

Arnold appeared in court on Monday wearing an inmate uniform and in handcuffs for a hearing addressing whether he should be held without bail. Prosecutors sought to keep him detained, but Chief Circuit Court Judge Christopher Sabella granted bail under strict conditions. Arnold must remain at his home in Tallahassee except when traveling for Lions' games, training, or legal appointments. He is prohibited from contacting any alleged co-conspirators or victims and was ordered to surrender his passport. The judge decided against requiring an ankle monitor, noting it would interfere with Arnold’s ability to fulfill his professional football obligations.

Later the same day, the Detroit Lions announced via social media that they had released Arnold. The team did not provide a reason for the release, but it came just hours after the bail decision. With Arnold no longer on the team, some bail conditions related to his employment may be subject to revision.

Arnold, who played college football at Alabama before being drafted by the Lions, now faces eight felony charges stemming from the case. It remains unclear what impact the legal proceedings will have on his football career moving forward. The investigation and court process are ongoing.
