Litro Gas announced a reduction in the prices of its domestic liquefied petroleum (LP) gas cylinders, effective from September 5. The company’s chairman, Channa Gunawardana, confirmed that the price of a 12.5-kilogram cylinder has decreased by Rs. 100, bringing the new price to Rs. 4,365. Similarly, the 5-kilogram cylinder price was lowered by Rs. 42 to Rs. 1,750, while the 2.3-kilogram cylinder now costs Rs. 815, a reduction of Rs. 20.

This adjustment in gas prices is anticipated to have a wider impact on related consumer products. Harshana Rukshan, chairman of the All-Island Restaurant Owners’ Association, indicated that the prices of items such as a cup of milk and plain tea have also been reduced by Rs. 5 starting the same day. Rukshan added that further decreases in food prices are expected as costs for raw materials continue to drop.

The price revision comes as part of ongoing efforts to ease the cost of living by addressing essential commodities, although the specific reasons for the recent decline in LP gas prices were not detailed by Litro Gas. The move is likely to benefit households and businesses reliant on domestic LP gas for cooking and heating.
