A three-year-old girl from Corinth, New York, died in February 2025 due to severe neglect, prompting a judge to impose a prison sentence on her parents. Joycelynn Ann Dylewski was found in extremely unsanitary conditions in her family’s apartment, where investigators discovered a heavy infestation of lice and rotting teeth.

Authorities responded to the residence following concerns about the child’s welfare. Upon examining Joycelynn, officials found live lice on her face and scalp, along with a cockroach that fell from her winter hat. Medical evaluations revealed the child was suffering from anemia, which had caused damage to her heart and other organs. Additionally, she had been administered clonidine, a blood pressure medication, which in combination with her other health issues, contributed to her death.

Saratoga County Judge James Davis sentenced Matthew Dylewski, 34, to a prison term ranging from 16 months to four years, citing the parents' failure to provide adequate care. Samantha Dylewski, 33, was also implicated in the case, though specific sentencing details were not disclosed. Saratoga County Sheriff Jeffrey Brown highlighted the severity of the neglect and its fatal consequences.

The case has drawn attention to the dangers of child neglect and the critical importance of proper caregiving and medical attention for young children. Authorities continue to emphasize vigilance and intervention in similar situations to prevent comparable tragedies.
