Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das set a new national record for the most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in a Test match during the ongoing one-off Test against Afghanistan at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Litton effected eight dismissals behind the stumps, surpassing the previous record of seven, which was held by former Bangladesh captain and wicketkeeper Khaled Masud Pilot since 2004.
The 22-year-old overtook the record after taking four catches and completing a stumping in Afghanistan’s first innings. He further added three catches early in the visitors’ second innings, bringing his match total to eight dismissals. Afghanistan is currently batting in the second innings, chasing a challenging target of 479 runs set by Bangladesh, providing Litton an opportunity to extend his tally before the match concludes.
In addition to his wicketkeeping achievements, Litton Das made significant contributions with the bat. He ended a recent run of poor form, during which he had recorded four ducks in his last five international innings, by scoring a half-century and a century in the two innings of this Test match. Litton scored 53 runs in Bangladesh’s first innings followed by 102 in the second, helping keep his team in a strong position against Afghanistan.
The match continues at Sheikh Zayed Stadium as Bangladesh looks to maintain its advantage while Afghanistan aims to mount a successful chase under the leadership of their batting lineup.
