Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has expressed optimism about the club’s recent home performances, which he believes have rekindled the enthusiasm of the Anfield supporters following a disappointing title defense last season. The Reds secured consecutive victories at home against Villarreal, Brighton, and Chelsea—whom they defeated on penalties in the League Cup on Wednesday—across three different competitions, setting a positive tone ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with champions Arsenal.

Under the stewardship of new manager Andoni Iraola, who took charge in June after the dismissal of Arne Slot, Liverpool appear to be adapting well to the tactical changes. Van Dijk highlighted the renewed energy among the fans during these recent matches, noting the importance of results in maintaining momentum.

“It’s a night like this (against Chelsea) and the other night (Villarreal)—I think the fans definitely like what they’re seeing and, of course, you feel that energy and it’s great,” van Dijk said. “I’ve been feeling that energy for quite a while and when you then miss it a little bit, then to get it back is obviously very good. Results help, massively. We understand it as well.”

The 35-year-old defender emphasized the team’s ambition to maintain strong performances throughout the full duration of every game, both at home and on the road, acknowledging the challenge of consistency in a demanding league. He also pointed to the extensive work taking place behind the scenes to support on-field success.

“We want to show that for the full 90 minutes, every game, home and away and obviously it’s not the easiest thing to do but we’re trying to and nights like this helps,” van Dijk added. “We put a lot of work in behind the scenes. Hopefully the reward will come.”

As Liverpool prepare to face Arsenal, the recent string of positive results at Anfield has restored confidence among players and supporters alike, signaling a potential turnaround in their campaign.
