The London Marathon will be held over two days for the first time in 2027, organizers announced. The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 24, and Sunday, April 25, with an anticipated 100,000 runners taking part.
Under the new format, elite women will compete on one day and elite men on the other, followed by the mass participation races. This change aims to better accommodate the growing number of entrants and enhance the experience for both elite athletes and amateur runners.
The decision comes after the marathon experienced unprecedented demand this year, with approximately 1.33 million people entering the ballot for the 2027 race. Race places are expected to be allocated in July.
By spreading the event across two days, organizers hope to manage the large field more effectively and provide improved logistics and safety for participants. The London Marathon remains one of the most popular and prestigious running events globally, drawing elite competitors and recreational runners alike from around the world.
