A 69-year-old Long Island man was fatally stabbed more than 40 times by his son in a violent early morning attack, Suffolk County authorities reported.

Edward Brown was attacked inside his studio apartment in Mastic shortly after midnight on September 7. According to officials, Brown was able to place a 911 call during the assault in which he repeatedly identified his attacker as his son, 33-year-old Sage Arias-Brown. In the emergency call obtained by authorities, Brown can be heard screaming, "I’m being murdered. What are you doing to me, Sage?"

Neighbors reportedly heard a loud noise followed by Brown’s cries for help. Arias-Brown was seen departing the apartment shortly after the 911 call was made. Suffolk County deputies arrested him less than half a mile away from the scene.

Brown’s body was discovered inside the apartment, reportedly covered in blood, according to an indictment. Arias-Brown was arraigned on September 17 on a charge of second-degree murder. The court ordered him held without bail. If convicted, Arias-Brown faces a sentence ranging from 25 years to life imprisonment.

Representatives for Arias-Brown did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
