Wolves midfielder Fer Lopez has been named the Goal Hero of the Month for September, an award recognizing the most significant and memorable goals across the English Football League’s Championship, League One, and League Two. Now in its second month, the accolade is presented by Compare the Market in partnership with the EFL to highlight goals that carry a substantial impact for clubs, players, and their supporters.

Lopez earned the distinction after scoring the decisive goal in the Black Country derby against West Bromwich Albion at Molineux Stadium. The 22-year-old Spaniard capitalized on a defensive error with a well-timed interception and finish, securing a 1-0 victory for Wolves. This marked the club’s first home triumph over their regional rivals since 2011.

Reflecting on the goal, Lopez acknowledged the significance of the fixture and the pride in contributing a winning strike. “I knew the importance of the game before we played, and the day before I started thinking that it would be such an honour winning and scoring the goal,” he said, describing the moment as “very special.”

The award was presented to Lopez by Aleksandr, the meerkat character associated with Compare the Market, during a ceremony held at Wolves’ training ground.
