Trainer Frankie Lor Fook-pun is set to field a strong lineup at Sha Tin on Sunday, featuring several of his key horses in what is a significant day for the stable. Among his entries are Classic Cup winner Stormy Grove and Lucky With You, who will run in the Group Three Celebration Cup over 1,400 meters.

Stormy Grove, imported from Australia with a single win to his name, took time to find his form locally but has shown marked improvement when raced over a mile or more. After capturing a restricted Class Three race at that distance, he delivered a notable victory in the Classic Cup by rallying past Hong Kong Derby winner Invincible Ibis. He subsequently secured third place behind the same rival in the Derby. However, his season was interrupted in May due to a bleeding issue from both nostrils. Since then, Lor reports the horse has regained good health and remains optimistic about his prospects. Jockey Jerry Chau Chun-lok will partner Stormy Grove, who is contesting a shorter 1,400-meter race on Sunday—Lor acknowledges the distance may be short but views the run as part of a comeback plan, with a longer 1,600-meter race anticipated next. There is talk of targeting the Hong Kong Mile in December, though long-term plans remain uncertain due to his recent health concerns.

Another notable runner for Lor is Lucky With You, a nine-year-old veteran seeking his first win since March of the previous year. With jockey Matthew Poon Ming-fai aboard, Lucky With You competes in the Group Three Celebration Cup. Last season, his highlight was a narrow second-place finish in Class Two company. He resumed this season with a fifth-place finish behind Ka Ying Rising in the Group Three HKSAR Chief Executive’s Cup over 1,200 meters. Lor suggested the shorter distance might suit the horse better but is willing to test him over 1,400 meters at the owner’s request.

Additionally, Lor will run Salon S in the Class Two Maggie Handicap (1,200 meters). The four-year-old son of Zousain showed rapid development last season, producing four consecutive wins early in his career with a prominent front-running style that allowed jockey Poon to set a strong pace before maintaining stamina late. The colt’s first Class Two attempt in April ended with a fourth-place finish, but Lor remains encouraged by the performance and sees Salon S as an exciting contender for the upcoming Classic Series. Lor plans to experiment with the colt’s race tactics by using a tongue tie and encouraging a more restrained early pace to help him adapt. Salon S is being prepared for longer distances, with hopes of competing in the Classic Mile, although his suitability for 1,800 meters is still uncertain.

Lor, who is still seeking his first winner of the current campaign, will also feature runners Daily Fun, Run Run Sunrise, Chiu Chow Golf, and The Red Hare. The latter, a dual winner last season, made a promising return by finishing sixth at Sha Tin’s opening meeting and is aimed at winning his third local race in the Class Three Kestrel Handicap (1,400 meters) with Poon again in the saddle. Lor expressed confidence that a more favorable draw will improve The Red Hare’s chances in Sunday’s race.
