Trainer Scott Singleton remains uncertain about the full potential of the unbeaten four-year-old racehorse Lord Remlap as the colt begins preparations for a campaign targeting The Kosciuszko Stakes. The son of Star Turn recently secured his fourth consecutive victory, winning a Highway race at Randwick despite racing four wide without cover.

Singleton expressed satisfaction with Lord Remlap’s condition following the latest win, noting the horse’s strong recovery and consistent training performance. “The horse is great and pulled up really well from his win the other day,” Singleton said. “All of his work since has been great, so we just need to keep him in one piece going into that race.”

Although Lord Remlap’s unbeaten record makes it difficult to accurately gauge his capabilities, Singleton has held a high opinion of the horse from the outset. “Even before he’d had a start, we always thought he would be the type to end up in that race,” Singleton added. The Kosciuszko Stakes, one of the richest metropolitan races in Australia with a $2 million purse, is scheduled for October 17.

Securing a spot for Lord Remlap in the race was facilitated when one of the part-owners held a winning ticket, which helped finalize entry arrangements. Singleton indicated that the team likely would have gained entry regardless but that this development expedited the process.

In futures markets, Lord Remlap is currently priced at $11 to win The Kosciuszko, behind the market favorite Band Of Brothers, trained by Matt Dunn, who is quoted at $4.50.

Singleton, based in Scone, plans to run Lord Remlap once more prior to the major event, targeting a Benchmark 72 race at Rosehill Gardens. This midweek race, scheduled for two weeks before The Kosciuszko, is intended as a lead-up to help the horse reach peak fitness. “He takes a bit of racing to really get going, but he’s just been winning on talent, so we’ll give him another run before the grand final,” Singleton said.
