The pitch at Lord’s Cricket Ground used during the First Test between England and New Zealand in June has been removed following a review by the International Cricket Council (ICC), which rated it as “unsatisfactory.” The playing surface, designated as pitch No. 9, was found to have uneven bounce attributed to overuse during the match, which lasted 166 overs.

Former England captain Ben Stokes publicly criticized the condition of the pitch, describing it as “not good” for Test cricket. This marks the first occasion since 1999 that a Lord’s pitch has been completely replaced after failing to meet the ICC’s standards.

Ground staff have commenced work on installing a new surface, which is not expected to be ready for play until 2029. The decision to renew the pitch reflects a commitment to maintaining quality playing conditions at one of cricket’s most iconic venues.
