Dutch cyclist Lorena Wiebes secured her second consecutive stage victory at the Tour de France Femmes on Sunday, extending her overall lead in the race. Riding for Team SD Worx-Protime, Wiebes won the 147.9-kilometre Stage 2, held in Geneva, Switzerland, finishing ahead of Italian rider Elisa Balsamo and fellow Dutch competitor Marianne Vos.

Wiebes executed a well-timed sprint from the main pack in the final stretch, launching her attack around 200 metres from the finish line. The 27-year-old held off her rivals to cross the line first, marking her seventh Tour de France stage win and her first while wearing the race leader’s yellow jersey.

“I knew that it was up to me to find my own way,” Wiebes said after the stage. She credited her teammates for their efforts in controlling the race and maintaining pressure in the final kilometres.

The stage saw an early breakaway eventually caught with about 40 kilometres remaining, followed by a late solo attempt by Dutch rider Riejanne Markus. Markus opened a lead of roughly one minute but was reeled back in by the chasing peloton less than 500 metres from the finish, setting the stage for the anticipated sprint.

Elisa Balsamo finished second for Lidl-Trek, with 39-year-old Marianne Vos taking third. Wiebes’s victory included a 10-second time bonus, increasing her overall lead to 14 seconds ahead of Kimberley Le Court of Mauritius. Defending champion Demi Vollering sits third in the general classification, two seconds behind Le Court.

Wiebes described the win as particularly meaningful given the teamwork involved. “Winning in yellow makes it for sure special but also because, again, our team worked really hard for it,” she said, praising her teammates for their full effort to chase down Markus.

The Tour de France Femmes continues on Monday with Stage 3, a 156.5-kilometre route starting in Geneva and ending in Poligny, France.
