Newcastle United manager Matthias Jaissle has expressed strong admiration for England full-back Lewis Hall as the club finalizes a new long-term contract with the player. Hall has agreed to a two-year extension, keeping him at St James’ Park until 2031 on improved wages. The new deal notably excludes a release clause, underscoring the club’s intention to make Hall a central figure in Jaissle’s evolving squad.
The commitment comes after Newcastle turned down an approach from Manchester United for Hall in August, signaling their view of the 19-year-old as "untouchable" during the recent transfer window. Discussions for the contract extension began once the deadline had passed and were concluded swiftly.
Jaissle refrained from discussing specific contract details but praised Hall’s development and potential. “I’m in love with what I’ve seen so far from him,” the manager said. “He’s an amazing player with huge potential still, and this makes me so happy to, hopefully, have him here for the long term. He’s fitting so well to this identity, how we want to play.”
In addition to Hall’s new contract, Newcastle are reportedly considering extensions for other regular starters, including Joe Willock and Jacob Murphy, in an effort to resolve ongoing contract uncertainties within the squad. Sporting director Ross Wilson has described the summer transfer window, which featured eight new signings and a managerial change, as having gone “completely to plan.”
Despite a strong start to the season under Jaissle, Newcastle’s performance metrics suggest there are areas for improvement. The team has conceded 61 chances to opposing sides and is ranked 19th in the expected points table compiled by Opta. Jaissle emphasized the need to balance statistical analysis with live observation, stating, “I always take statistics in my thoughts but sometimes you need to see things with your own eyes.” He acknowledged the possibility for greater dominance in creating opportunities in the attacking third while noting the strength of recent opponents.
Jaissle also provided updates on the squad’s fitness. He described an injury sustained by right-back Amar Eddic as “not serious” and indicated that new signing Matias Fernandez-Pardo might need more time before earning a starting spot. Newcastle faces Leeds United on Monday, where the manager anticipates further opportunities to refine the team’s approach and performance.
