A 35-year-old woman whose body was discovered in a burning van in North Wales was pregnant at the time of her death, police have confirmed. Samantha Natalie Phythian, known to family and friends as Sammi, was found dead following a vehicle fire on Gas Works Lane in Prestatyn on the night of October 4. Emergency services responded to the scene around 11:30 p.m.
Thomas Bell, 38, appeared before Mold Crown Court on Wednesday charged with Ms. Phythian’s murder and has been remanded in custody pending further proceedings. The case remains under investigation.
North Wales Police issued a statement confirming the results of a postmortem examination, which revealed that Ms. Phythian had been pregnant when she died. The force identified the victim as a resident of Rhyl.
In a tribute released by authorities, Ms. Phythian’s family described her as a “much-loved mum, daughter, sister, auntie, and friend” who will be deeply missed. They emphasized the special place she held in the hearts of those who knew her.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the van fire and Ms. Phythian’s death is ongoing, with police appealing for any witnesses or individuals with information to come forward.
