LuLu Hypermarket has opened “The Festival of Spain 2026,” a weeklong event designed to highlight the culinary heritage and flavors of Spain across its stores in Qatar. The festival, which runs until October 14, was officially inaugurated at the Giardino store on The Pearl-Qatar by Spain’s ambassador to Qatar, Dr. Alvaro Renedo Zalba.

The inauguration ceremony included representatives from the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Qatar and other distinguished guests. The event transformed the hypermarket into a lively display of Spanish culture, featuring themed decorations, prominent product presentations inspired by Spain’s famous landmarks, and an immersive atmosphere centered on the country’s gastronomic traditions.

Speaking on the event’s sidelines, Dr. Renedo Zalba emphasized the importance of gastronomy in reinforcing the strong ties between Spain and Qatar. He described the festival as a “gastronomic bridge” intended to bring the two countries closer through food. The ambassador noted the positive reception of Spanish products in Qatar, where consumers appreciate the diversity and quality of the nation’s cuisine. He also pointed out the historical culinary connections between Spanish and Arab traditions, citing ingredients like saffron and olive oil, as well as sweets such as turron, which have roots influenced by Arab gastronomy.

A spokesperson for LuLu Group highlighted the company’s ongoing commitment to delivering authentic, high-quality international products. The group’s annual Spanish Festival has expanded its selection this year, offering a broader range of authentic items directly sourced from Spain. The spokesperson underlined the aim to make Spanish cuisine and food culture more accessible to shoppers in Qatar, maintaining the standards of authenticity and quality expected from LuLu.

Supporting these efforts is LuLu Group’s logistics and warehousing facility in Madrid, operated by Y International. This center is a key component in sourcing and distributing Spanish products to stores throughout the region. The facility is part of LuLu’s extensive export distribution network covering 22 countries, enhancing its ability to consistently supply high-quality international products.

Together, these initiatives reflect a shared goal of promoting Spanish culinary culture, encouraging customers to explore new flavors, and strengthening cultural and commercial ties between Spain and Qatar.
